For downhill skiers and boarders, the development at Glenshee has all the facilities you would expect in a fully developed centre, including tuition, equipment hire, refreshments and ski patrols.

There are 26 blue and red runs alone, and adding these to a couple of black runs – including the challenging Tiger with its famous moguls  – this makes Glenshee the most extensive ski area in Scotland, with the ski area developed on both sides of the main road over three valleys and four mountains.  A chairlift runs in the summer months giving access to high terrain, while a new development of a downhill mountain bike track is opening shortly

In Glenshee in particular, the same advice for walkers applies to cross-country and ski mountaineers – the main ski area carpark makes a great base for expeditions beyond the snow line for the experienced, careful and properly equipped skier, as it gives access to the wild and high Grampian plateau from the Glas Maol eastwards and northwards.

And when the snow line comes further down the glen, this opens up all kinds of cross-country possibilities – along any of the Forestry Commission roads, or on the special waymarked trails in nearby Glen Isla. Bridge of Cally with the nearby Blackcraig Forest, also traversed by the Cateran Trail, is another option.
